What is the Opposite of Inspiration?

In my seemingly never-ending quest for some design inspiration for the Spanish house, I ended up this evening outside, surfing for light fixtures, of all things! I always try to buy local, so was looking for some Spanish lighting stores that maybe carried something a little different from the tacky standard issue…

It seems when they build in Spain, they don’t wire for ceiling lights, in fact, there is seldom a ceiling fixture. Instead, the cord is run along a beam or across the ceiling to install a ceiling fan or central fixture.

And so in our new project, there are TONS of wall sconces. Yuk. And all of them in our house are FUGLY. And so I thought, if anywhere, maybe looking for lighting fixtures might bring on some inspiration and catapult me into the  happy-ever-after land of a design vision for the house. But alas, no.

But I did have a giggle at a few of these and thought I’d share. And these are just from one site! (And I thought sourcing in France was difficult!!!) Yikes, there is some fun to be had in my future!

OMG! They are so over-the-top horrible! What were the designers thinking?#! Love your descriptions, which were spot on.

Having said all that, I do have a fave – the intruder detector!

    Hi Cindy and Theo!

Have you tried going to Habitat? Or the Corte Ingles? I know it’s a long shot but you never know. Or you just might have to go to Barcelona for some cool inspiration.
    Hugs from Hanchett Ave!

      Hi David and Todd,
So nice to hear from you. I have actually found some fairly nice fixtures, but I have to look through all this crap to find them! And some of these just made me giggle. I have a whole list of quirky retailers that I scour regularly, as well as the bigger box brands. It’s just challenging because I’m not a huge fan of modern Euro-style and I’m not going antique. And so it goes. But you gotta just KNOW I LOVE the hunt!!!
      Hugs…

Hi Nadia, Do you have Javascript installed? I believe the WordPress slideshows require it. But thanks for letting me know it’s not working for you. I will investigate. I know the software just updated to the latest, so who knows???!!! Hope you guys are well. Are you still in the Dordogne? Wet today—I’m ready to head for Spain… Cindy

I thought Home Depot was king of the bad design court. You should be able to put those in to a curio shop and make someone’s dream come true!
