Took time out to visit the gardens at Marqueyssac this weekend. About 40 minutes from the house.
Gardens by the château. Overall, the gardens contain over 150,000 hand-trimmed boxwoods, pruned twice a year and kept by five full-time gardeners.
The private estate dates from the 17th century and the gardens, designed for walking, overlook the whole Dordogne valley.
The château.
Panoramas du Périgord, with three famous châteaux in the distance.
One of many art installations, the Archway is an amazing long, long, long walkway created by the artist Gerard Chabert.
Little waterfall surprise. Delightful!
Me and the dogs in yet another beautiful pathway.
One of many huts on the walk. Magical. The stuff fairytales are made from.
An entire outcrop of gremlins in this clearing.
Another delightful water feature.
Fooled me at first. Excellent trompe l’oeil on the château.
Can’t wait to visit next June, when they have candlelight evenings with live musical tidbits around the site. Reserve your room now at Maison Loevenich!!!
Beautiful! Where do I sign up for this life?
Roark,
You and Gil must come for a visit. It’s absolutely magical! And there are fabulous lock-up-and-leave properties in the high €100,000’s if you’re looking for a getaway!!!

Good to hear from you, Pat. We are having the time of our lives! It’s so GREEN here, I can hardly wait to have my own garden. Of course, there’s rain along the way, but it’s wonderful! Keep in touch!
